Teleconverters increase the focal length of your Camera. Their general function is to zoom in on an object which is far away. Thus the object seems closer. With the zoom of the Camera Lens itself respectively Telelens you will not be able to achieve the same results as if you were using a Teleconverter. Their function is comparable to a telescope. Another possible usage is macro- photography. In this case the Teleconverter can help to enlarge distances to the photographed object to improve e.g. the lighting. Additionally in insect- photography a Teleconverter helps to prevent you from getting into the escape range of animals. The bigger the factor of the Teleconverter, the "closer" appears an object in far distance. A Teleconverter with a factor of 2.0x therefore pictures an object bigger than a Converter with a factor of 1.3x.
